A Message from Our Owner
I have been providing valuation advice for clients, both in the UK and Overseas, since 2000. My career highlights include valuing the Libyan Sovereign Wealth Fund assets in Foreign Office Red List countries for the World Bank, valuing assets funded by the Qatari Investment Authority on the Comoros Islands, and various other engagements in emerging markets from my office based in the UAE.
Now returned to the Arcadia that is rural England, I divide my time between Dorset and the Chilterns. I specialise in two areas of property valuation – Tax Valuation (Inheritance Tax “probate”, Stamp Duty Land Tax) and Matrimonial Valuations for divorce purposes. For the most part, we deal with residential property, but we are very happy to value both commercial and rural properties.
We are a boutique consultancy, and you can be sure that you will be treated like one of the family. Our aim is to provide a professional service that makes you glad that you chose us.”Richard Sweetman

Professional Advice that Ensures the Best Outcome
Clients will often request a valuation for ‘probate purposes’ when they actually need a valuation for IHT purposes. When confirming instructions and in the report, we make it clear that although the valuation is required as part of the procedure for obtaining a ‘grant of probate’, the basis of value will be in accordance with the statutory definition. As such, we avoid using the term ‘probate value’.
All types of property can be assessed; commercial, rural, as well as residential. We encourage clients not to use an estate agent for Inheritance Tax valuations as not using a qualified valuer can lead to unpleasant consequences with HMRC. Here at Gladsome, we will mitigate this risk. Thanks to the depth of experience of our staff, we’re able to provide a diverse range of property surveying solutions to every client.
